Almost Kin sings close harmony, drawing inspiration from a wide range of styles and eras, from the pioneering work of Hazel Dickens and Alice Gerrard, to ground-breakers Dolly Parton and Bill Monroe and on to notable iconoclasts like The Roches. The four members—George Devoe, Lily Wiggins, Margot Protzel and Jess Lynn —are all Jalopy School of Music alums who started singing and playing together in the fall of 2022, focusing on two, three and four part harmonies in classic songs from the bluegrass and country music traditions, broadening out into Texas swing, traditional folk and contemporary Americana. With tight vocals accompanied by guitar and mandolin, Almost Kin features the familiar, the forgotten and the rarely heard.
Named for past Salmagundi member Norman Rockwell, the Rockwell Gallery contains three of NYC’s oldest, largest and heaviest pool tables.
